When I am fishing Kestrel Lake, I know I am going to have a really enjoyable days
fishing. Why? It is rammed with every species to think of and every peg is different.
The
best two methods are with out doubt worm and caster fished either in open water or
tight to islands or other features reachable with the pole.
The other is the method
feeder fished to islands at distance.
My favourite tactic is the worm and caster approach
in order to catch my target weight, I take 3 pints of caster and 1kg worm and and
2 tins of corn. I chop them up and into 2 pint tubs and mix together.
I kick start
the swim with 250ml of the mix, then feed every drop in with a kinder pot full of
the worm mix.
Rig wise I set up two identical rigs, but one rig set up on double 8
Preston Slip and the other for bagging I use the Maver Retro 12-
Another must is a pulla kit, they
are perfect for this lake because you never know what the next fish is going to be.
The
second match winning tactic is the flat bed method.
By chucking tight to the island
or in open water you really put together big weights. The rods I use are extremely
forging which allows me apply the pressure when its needed. This is essential when
fishing tight to the features. My reel line is 0.20mm Jurrassic reel line. I choose
this line because its super strong and is extremely low in diameter for its strength.
I
then attach a small 30g Kobra method and a size 10 swivel, which I tie a 0.18mm 4
inch hair hook length. Bait wise I mix 1kg or Bait-
Regular and accurate is the key to this method, remember to never take your
hands off the rod because there strong bites. All these methods are extremely simple
and effective. So I hope you can put them to good use in your next visit.
