Advice on how to fish Hawk Lake by our expert
2010 Division 2 National Champion
and Maver Bait-
he employs when fishing on Hawk Lake
Hawk Lake is full of fish you can compete from virtually every swim. My main tactics
I use on this lake revolve around targeting carp tight across with corn or pellet
or a small fish attack down the track or in the margins with maggots or worm and
caster.
I always start tight across in inches of water with 4mm fishery pellets and
corn feed via a kinder pot. This is a good indicator of how the lake will fish on
the day!
Rig wise I use 4 x 10 Invincible Series 2 float tied to a 0.18mm Maver Genisis
mainline, a simple spread bulk and a 0.14mm hook length and a size 16 Maver MT3 hook
with a extremely sharp and wide gap, perfect for corn and pellet. I also have plenty
of banded pellets made up just incase I’m getting bitted out.
If this line isn’t productive
I will target the ide, barbel, brown goldfish and other silver fish down the middle
with maggots fed heavily by hand. I set a couple of rigs for this. One shallow, set
at 1.5ft which consists of 0.1 Maver Invincible Series 5 float with my shot spread
evenly down the line. 0.16mm mainline and a 0.12mm hook length tied to a size 18
Maver
Elite ES43 hook.
The second rig is Maver Invincible Series 1 float in 4 x 16 for fishing
bits of worm on double maggot on the deck.
A size 16 MT3 hook and 0.14mm hook length
and 0.18mm mainline are the perfect combination!
All my top rigs feature Maver 8-
To get big weights lots of fish are needed on this lake,
so speed is the key!
